Sharing the story
In 2019 we decided to change our traveling patterns, adapting to a smaller carbon foot print. We had for many years travelled in the Andalusian Sierras, admiring the oak forests and farm houses with mountain views, dreaming away and talking about transforming a farm to a Boutique Hotel.
One year later we found ourselves the owners of an Andalusian Finca and 84 oak trees! A Finca is a house built on an agriculture land lot, and this one is actually still producing cork, within a 8 year harvest cycle.
We are now mimicking migrating birds and following the sun over the year, traveling front and back between Stockholm and our Andalusian Finca by electric car.
How Finca El Chaparral changes everything
We aimed to spend more and more of our life in this quiet and beautiful environment, combining free time with remote work. This was the beginning of a change in life style. Our ambition has always been to learn Spanish and try to slowly become part of the local community, at the same time as we explore all the scenic hiking trails together with Nelzon the Beagle.
All of the above is now our life, where learning Spanish is the hardest part and a work in progress, with great help from all our new valley and mountain ridge friends. The community has embraced us fully, where we now take part of all kind of local social, cultural, culinary and nature activities.
Another "to do" is getting a grip of the neighboring rock face and the two Via Ferrata and all the sport climbing routes that are in our cocktail climber range. Part of that goal is to get back in shape for climbing, coming to a full circle as Thomas started his climbing adventures in this mountains back in 1994.
Anki hopes to find a stable where she can practice her horse back archery skill.
